Patient Information

This section is dedicated to patients who will be undergoing an operation or surgical procedure. Prior to the scheduled operation, there are vital pieces of information that should be noted by a patient. It is the patient’s responsibility to keep themselves informed.

As a patient, you should be assured that Australia is one of the safest countries in which to have anaesthetics due to the fact that our Anaesthetists are highly trained, skilled and knowledgeable. You should work together with your anaesthetist to completely ensure the success of your operation.

First and foremost, it may be useful for you to have a basic understanding of what anaesthesia is, what is does and how it is administered. The Anaesthetics section provides the basic information you need to know.

It is recommended that you talk to your anaesthetist prior to your scheduled operation. During this talk make sure that your anaesthetist is aware of any health-related issues that you may have, including appropriate family history. Ask all your questions so you can have peace of mind.

At this point, your anaesthetist will also inform you about the things that you should and should not do prior to the operation.

We ask that you complete our Pre-Operative Questionnaire prior to going to your anaesthetist. You can either print the questionnaire or complete this online and forward. Have your printout of the questionnaire with your answers completed. Show this to your anaesthetist when you, either, visit prior or on the day of your operation.
